Visiting Hours

Jennifer's father, Doug, and brother, Brent, listening to Jenny explain how she was nails in delivery.

Jenny's mother, Connie, introducing Madison to her replacement.

Logan is just checking Grant's reaction time to Logon's patented "Eye Poke Test."

"Don't worry, those tears just mean that Grant is healthy," Logan assuages.

Logan.

Jennifer and Hatsuho Cook. Good thing this camera doesn't record sound, because out of the corner of her mouth Hatsuho is muttering, "I had my baby first! Why does she get to leave?"

Grandpa and the gang.

Consider all the silent thoughts:

Joe: "Sure, he's sleeping now, but how's he going to fare at 11:00 tonight?"

Logan: "Wow! He's squeezable."

Madison: "Just because I have to love you doesn't mean I have to like you."

D-Day Pictures

Jenny relieved that yet another child comes out unscathed (translation: favors the mother rather than the father).

Although it looks like Baby Boy McGregor desires the pacifier, it's merely PR. Both parents can confirm.

Jenny.

This is perhaps the freshest picture of Baby Boy McGregor.

This is _____________ about 3 minutes after birth. One day he'll be embarrassed about this post.

D-Day

Delivery Day has arrived.

On Wednesday evening, March 19, 2008, Jenny started experiencing intense contractions at 4-minute intervals. At about 8:00 pm, we hopped into the car and hauled Jenny to Hillcrest Hospital.

It seemed that this was showtime. On several previous occassions, contractions came, but subsided after Jenny rested. Once again, after the nurses wired Jenny up, the contractions started to recede, and pretty much ceased altogether.

We had arranged with the doctor to induce at 7:00 am the next morning, so the doctor decided to give Jenny a little encouragement in the form of pitocin. The meds began dripping at approximately 1:00 am. At 5:02 this morning Jenny delivered an 8 lb 12 oz baby boy. Incredibly, Jenny squeezed this man-child out without the aid of any pain-relievers. What a champ!

For Joe

Joe set up this blog and wants me to write on it! I am trying to figure this out--just for him (I love you, dear).

Today we had an ultrasound of the baby to see how big he is. The guesstimate is 8lbs 5 oz. Yikes! Of course, the lady was nice and said that it was probably an ounce or five one direction or the other. So should we induce (like tomorrow) or wait another week to have a 9 lb baby? Madison was 8lbs 6 oz, and my dr. has wondered over the past few weeks how I managed to get her out...so maybe inducing would be ok. Oh, and Joe--here's the nine months, baby! picture you wanted.

Joe's "Real" First Post

I knew we wanted to create a blog--we've been talking about it for months but neither of us seemed to have the motivation to actually do it. Finally I signed us up for this nifty spot in cyberspace, but couldn't think of what to write as the inaugural post. I took the easy route and posted some Youtube links. Now, for a more legitimate start, I'll bring this site up to speed with how we got to March 18, 2008.

Almost as soon as we moved into our well-painted closet in South Euclid, Ohio, we got pregnant (I never know which instances of referring to the pregnancy will incur ire, so I err on the side of including myself). This week we will likely enjoy the fruits of that discovery.

We are nervously anxious to see how Logan and Madison respond to having a baby brother. We're pretty sure Logan can cope, since he already has a baby sister. But Madison has evidenced some jealous tendencies when Jenny holds other babies. And I don't think it's in Madison's nature to enjoy sharing attention.

Today we will go hit the ultrasound machine and get our fortune read. The doctor has indicated that the baby is measuring large, and will permit us to induce whenever we'd like, even though the official due date is not until this Sunday. If the ultrasound confirms what the doctor believes, we think we will induce on Wednesday. When I say "we," I mean everyone but Jenny. She, she thinks, would prefer to let things happen naturally. She has never delivered naturally, though--each time previously her water broke and we had to induce--and it's not like the baby's losing weight in there. Ultimately, it's Jenny's decision. We'll know by lunchtime what her decision is.

Joe's Trip Down Youtube's Memory Lane

I was recently perusing Youtube for footage of some bands of friends. Lo and Behold, I found a link to the first "underground" show I ever attended. The band was Carbomb. The set was short, and full of energy. Unfortunately the video I found failed to capture what I experienced as a young teenager. These guys were great.

Without further adieu . . .
